We strive to spark creativity, inspire betterment, build meaningful relationships, and be authentic.
In 2014 I was a new mom and a new maker in Oshawa, who didn’t ship. I inspired, tired, overwhelmed, and felt completely alone. The industry norm at the time was to give your home address out and have your customers pickup from your porch. From the very first time I gave out my address I felt uneasy. I was often in my pjs, greasy hair, breast feeding, or (fingers crossed) holding a sleeping baby. Oh, and a dog, who got reeeally excited whenever someone came to the door. Not a great situation.
Outside of shipping, this was the solution for getting my orders into my valued customer’s hands. The thing was no one else seemed to question it. Porch pickup was the way it was. Aside from the obvious privacy and security issues, was the lack of customer service. A cold bag, alone on a porch, no smiles, no heartfelt gratitude. The whole thing didn’t add up to me. The ol’ idea engine started, and it wasn’t long until it hit me, a centralized pickup location for all local makers!!
The only catch was that I would have to wait until my son started school. Until then I lived the life of porch pickup, dreaming of the day I could finally launch and open The Maker’s Hub in 2017.
So much has changed since then, and yet so much has stayed the same. We still offer incredible customer service and secure pickups for makers. We continue to support makers dreams and nurture meaningful relationships. Our team remains made up of makers only. But we now have a delightful retail boutique to enjoy and we couldn't be happier.
A couple times a month I write an email.
