Clarke Paper and Knife | Red-Spotted Purple Butterfly - Hand-cut Paper Art
This desktop-sized art piece is the perfect gift for a friend or family member who loves butterflies. The back of the frame has the following inscription:
"These butterflies are masters of disguise. They mimic the unpalatable pipevine swallowtails to avoid being eaten by birds. They are pretty rare and considered to be wish granters. So if you are able to spot one in the forest, take it as a sign of good things to come."
The artwork begins with hand-cutting a single piece of cardstock for the outline of the butterfly. Then coloured tissue paper is meticulously cut to size and added to the wings, making them slightly translucent. The wings are then curved slightly and the insect is mounted on sturdy cardstock. Each piece looks like a real specimen and is sure to be a conversation starter.
